You probably already know that you can use Photoshop to create web banners and buttons or to create web sites. In fact, creating banners and buttons is rather easy. All you need to do is use the predefined web banner sized canvas that Photoshop already comes with. However, this is not all that Photoshop can do for you.

The majority of people who are using Photoshop today are not using it to its fullest potential. This software is highly versatile. Here are some ways that you could be using Photoshop but probably aren’t.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to restore old photographs? You probably have photographs in your old family album that haven’t done a very good job at standing up over the years. Maybe these pictures have cracks or tears in them that spoil their look. Well, the good news is that you are able to use a scanner to upload the pictures to your computer. You can then open the photos in Photoshop and use Photoshop’s Healing Brush, Patch Tools, and Clone Stamp to make your photograph as good as new. (The Healing Brush is an especially good tool. This is because it takes samples of the data that is found in any single part of your picture and then blends it together with what is already there.)

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to correct mistakes? Maybe you’ve placed your finger on top of the camera lens… Maybe you’ve gotten your flash too close to your photo, thus causing the people in your photograph to have a bad case of “red eye…” Whatever the case is, you can still fix your photograph. You can begin by using the crop tool. This will enable you to save a part of your photograph and then enlarge it to a decent size. You can then use the tool that is called an eyedropper and sample the color that is surrounds the iris. You would then use the paintbrush to get rid of the red.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to add graphics to your videos? Many editing systems will allow you to transport Photoshop’s .psd files immediately into their timeline.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to create textual effects for both online items and those that are to be in print? You are almost unlimited in what you are able to do here. In order to easily create text that is filled with your picture, simply use the Type Mask Tools. When you’re done you have the option of placing them onto your web site or on a T-shirt for the entire world to see.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to turn a photograph into a great piece of artwork? We all enjoy looking at nice things on our walls, especially when these things are not the same as what is on everyone else’s wall. Until now you either had to have a lot of money or great artistic talent to make this happen though. Now you can simply use Photoshop’s filters to change your photographs into something new. The best ones to use are the Artistic or Brush Stroke ones. When you’re done you can simply print this artwork on quality paper and hang them on your wall.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to add text to your photographs? The Move Tool can be used to simply move the text that you’re working with sideways so that it fits the size of the picture that you’re using. You then need to somewhat adjust the way in which this is obscured and you’ve created something where the text looks as though it had always been there.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to combine graphics and text to create covers for reports, books and CD’s? There are a variety of ways in which you can manipulate images within Photoshop. For instance you can use the command that is known as “layer via cut.” This will cause your title text to go behind a portion of your picture.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop in such a way as to change your artwork or photograph into a web site? Simply use the slicing tool in order to cut your work into pieces that can be easily downloaded. From there you can use the rollover function in order to embed your website’s URL.

Did you know that you could use Photoshop to combine pictures? You can then make the impossible possible by creating fake photographs. For instance, if you really want to say that you shook hands with a star, Photoshop can make that happen for you. This is because Photoshop will allow you to take one picture's background, some elements from another picture, and then put them together with a third picture's background to form a picture that was never actually taken.

There are a lot of really neat things that you can do with Photoshop. These are just a few quick ideas. A lot can be done with this very powerful computer tool. Have some fun! Experiment! Check it out and see what you can do.

Today, as part of the Adobe Reader and Acrobat security initiative, Adobe announced that Adobe Reader will be available in "protected mode" in the next major release of Adobe Reader.

Protected mode is a technology that's previously been seen in Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Microsoft Office 2010, which effectively sandboxes the application, and restricts it from performing an action outside of the sandbox without verifying whether or not the action is legitimate, which helps stop illegitimate applications before they can access the system.

Adobe says that they have been working closely with Davic LeBlanc, Dan Jump and "other members of the Office 2010 team", as well as the Google Chrome team and various other third party consultancies utilising their knowledge and experience to learn the best way to integrate the technology.

Adobe Reader's new protected mode is based on Microsoft's Practical Windows Sandboxing technique, and will be enabled by default. Adobe Reader will perform all actions it needs to display the PDF file on the PC in a "very restricted manner" inside the sandbox. If Adobe reader needs to access an external application, such as copying and pasting information out, or opening an attachment in an external application, such as Microsoft Word, the requests are "funneled through a 'broker process'" which checks for allowed and disallowed access, to prevent dangerous behavior, such as that found in malware and viruses.

The technology means that if a new security vulnerability is found in Reader, which happens from time to time, Protected Mode will help stop the attacker "from writing files, changing registry keys or installing malware on targeted computers".

According to Adobe, the first release of "protected mode" will be only the first step in implementing the technology, and will sandbox all "write" calls on Windows 7, Vista, XP, Server 2008 and 2003. In future releases of Adobe Reader, the company plans to extend the implementation of the sandbox further to include read-only activities to "stop attackers seeking to read sensitive information on the user's computer", such as personal files and information.
